Swim Team Meet on Tuesday July 19th

July 14th, 2011

Last Home Meet: The Brookstone Barracudas will be holding a meet next week at the Brookstone Community Pool; the meet will be held on Tuesday, July 19. The rain date for this meet is Wednesday, July 20.

Key Details:

  • This meet, and all home meets, are listed on the Brookstone Community Calendar. Additional details on the full meet schedule (and rain dates) is available on the swim team web page.
  • The pool will be closed starting at 4:00PM on the day of the meet to setup lanes and equipment.
  • The Brookstone Barracudas concession stand will be open during the meet with nibbles for all to enjoy.

Come join in on the fun of rooting for the home team. Stop by and see how they perform and wander by the concession stand for a snack; future swimmers are welcome to watch too!

The effort and camaraderie of the swim team is a wonderful sight to see. There will be lots of cheering, especially when the 6 and under swimmers are making their way across the pool. (Those swimmers 7 and up swim hard too of course!)

Note that parking will be limited, Brookstone residents are encouraged to walk (the visiting team has to drive of course). If you drive, please park on one side of the street only; no parking on the grass.

ICE Relocation to Cary

July 6th, 2011

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) is currently evaluating a proposal to relocate its offices to the vacant Kroger property in West Park Place at the corner of High House Road and Highway 55.

Information regarding the planned relocation can be found here at the Town of Cary’s website. http://www.townofcary.org/Departments/Administration/pio/factsheet-caryice.htm

We believe that the Kroger Property is not an appropriate location for the proposed ICE facility. It is inconsistent with the retail and residential nature of the area.

The General Services Administration has stopped it’s site selection process until July 20 in order to address community concerns.

There will be a community meeting at 5 PM on July 14 at the Green Hope Elementary School gymnasium, 2750 Louis Stephens Drive in Cary. Representatives from the General Services Administration, as well as the Department of Homeland Security, will be on hand to update citizens and answer questions.

Please act now and contact your federal elected officials prior to July 15 and let them know that you oppose the location of this facility here.
