Swim Meet Rescheduled for Today (June 29)

June 29th, 2011

Pending Home Meets – Brookstone Barracudas Swim Team:

  • Today: The Brookstone Barracudas will be holding a meet today at the Brookstone Community Pool; this is the rain date for yesterday’s meet which had to be canceled.

Key Details:

  • This meet, and all home meets, are listed on the Brookstone Community Calendar. Additional details on the full meet schedule (and rain dates) is available on the swim team web page.
  • The pool will be closed starting at 4:00PM on the day of the meet to setup lanes and equipment.
  • The Brookstone Barracudas concession stand will be open during the meet with nibbles for all to enjoy.

Come join in on the fun of rooting for the home team. Stop by and see how they perform and wander by the concession stand for a snack; future swimmers are welcome to watch too!

The effort and camaraderie of the swim team is a wonderful sight to see. There will be lots of cheering, especially when the 6 and under swimmers are making their way across the pool. (Those swimmers 7 and up swim hard too of course!)

Note that parking will be limited, Brookstone residents are encouraged to walk (the visiting team has to drive of course). If you drive, please park on one side of the street only; no parking on the grass.

Be attentive to Foxes; Town of Cary closed a local greenway trail

June 22nd, 2011

The town of Cary shared this item on their web site, you may have seen it in local news reports:
http://www.townofcary.org/Departments/Administration/pio/News_Releases/2011_News_Releases/stonecreekfox.htm

That trail is north of High House and west of Davis Drive.

If you are interested in more detail on the location of that greenway trail you can use this map – it is trail 14:
http://www.townofcary.org/Assets/Planning+Department/Planning+Department+PDFs/bicycleplan/bicyclemap.pdf

Be attentive as you walk about our neighborhood as we have had reports of foxes locally, possibly even in the swimming pool. If you see one acting strange or aggressive – notify Cary Animal Control immediately at (919) 319-4517. Be sure to indicate our location as it would probably not be the same fox.

Landscaping Project to begin Wednesday, June 15

June 15th, 2011

Beginning this Wednesday, June 15, our landscaping company will be installing sod in the devil strip along Fryar Creek. The installation will extend from Park York Lane to Jenks Carpenter Road. The work should be completed by Friday. June 17.

This installation is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the common areas of the Brookstone Community. The irrigation system along Fryar Creek has not functioned for some time. An assessment last year indicated that repairing it would not be cost effective. Bermuda, a warm season grass that is more drought resistant than fescue, will be installed along Fryar Creek. The result should be an enhanced appearance along one of the main thoroughfares of our community.

Bermuda sod can take between 30 and 60 days to fully establish. Jones Landscaping will be watering the sod as needed until established. Please help us to protect this investment by refraining from the walking of dogs in this area during the establishment period.

If you are interested in participating in future Landscaping Project planning, the Brookstone Common Area Landscape Committee is open to all homeowners. If you would like to join the committee please email landscaping@brookstoneweb.org.

Thank you,

Board of Directors
